The Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative

The Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative is a new project which aims to improve early detection and diagnosis of prostate cancer. The Initiative involves a mass testing programme through which free prostate cancer tests are provided to men aged between 40 and 80.

25,000 men will be tested as part of the project during 2026.

Participants in this research trial give a simple blood sample no physical examination involved. Results are sent directly and confidentially to the individual taking the test within 48 hours with advice on next steps, if any are required. Following initial PSA tests, selected samples will be subject to further innovative diagnostic tests for research purposes with the goal of gathering important data to help guide future screening and treatment protocols.

The Initiative is being supported by leading Scottish sporting figures, businesses and organisations and findings from the study will be made available to NHS Scotland.

If detected early, prostate cancer is highly treatable and early diagnosis offers a wide range of treatment options.

The Initiative is being supported by leading Scottish sporting figures including Olympian Sir Chris Hoy, and former Scotland rugby internationalist, Kenny Logan, as well as major employers and membership organisations.

EDX Medical Group is delivering the Initiative in conjunction with the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust, a prostate Health Awareness Charity. For further information and to book tests visit www.scottishprostate.com
